My Story

Started writing screenplays, treatments, pitches, concept notes, show bibles for film and television in India in 1999.

Sold my first feature spec script, DUBAI RETURN, in the year 2000. Directed by Aditya Bhattacharya (Raakh) and starring Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire, Jurassic World, Life of Pi), DUBAI RETURN premiered at the Indian International Film Festival, Goa (IFFI, 2005) to rave reviews. India Today called it "poignant, yet hilarious."

Through the aughts, wrote over a thousand episodes of television shows across a wide range of genres, including episodes of JASSI JAISI KOI NAHI (THERE’S NO ONE LIKE JASSI) - the Indian adaptation of the Columbian telenovela, YO SOY BETTY, LA FEA (BETTY, THE UGLY ONE). YO SOY BETTY, LA FEA was adapted in the US as UGLY BETTY.

Developed content, ran writers rooms, and wrote scripts for several successful television shows: LEFT RIGHT LEFT, KHOTEY SIKKEY (BAD PENNNIES), 12/24 KAROL BAGH, RADHA KI BEETIYAAN...(RADHA'S DAUGHTERS...) and several others. My work has aired on every major domestic and international broadcast network operating in India: FOX, SONY, TURNER, VIACOM, ZEE and others.

In 2006-07, worked as a collaborative writer on the feature film JOHNNY GADDAAR (JOHNNY TRAITOR) - directed by Sriram Raghavan.

Produced and distributed by Reliance Entertainment, co-owners of Dreamworks Studios, JOHNNY GADDAAR had a theatrical release on 300 screens across India. Over the past few years, the film has developed a cult following and is considered one of the most accomplished thrillers made in the India in the recent past.

By the end of the decade, feeling the strain of this prolific phase, I decided to make start afresh and moved to Wellington, NZ, to get an MA in Creative Writing (Scriptwriting) at the prestigious International Institute of Modern Letters or IIML, Victoria University of Wellington.

My thesis screenplay, THE BLOODY MULLIGANS, won the Embassy David Carson-Parker Prize for Scriptwriting in 2012.

In 2013, moved to the United States to get an MFA (Film Production) at the College of Fine Arts, Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

It was his story against mine, but of course, I told my story better.
